Graduate Psychology Class from KSU (transfer credit)
Reflective Statement:
This research experiment proposal paper (in Adobe PDF format), was done in 2001 for a graduate course in psychology. At that point I was pursuing a Masters in Psychology specializing in human-computer interaction. This paper proposes adding to previously published research I assisted with in examining the effects of various writing styles on free recall of presented information. This research proposal dealt with testing users with both free recall and recognition as more often used in distance education.
Process Statement:
This research experiment proposal paper took a long time to create in that first I had to complete the initial research that I was assisting with. As we evaluated the research findings I kept thinking about how we test the users. We simply gave them a piece of paper and asked them to recall everything they could about the information they had been exposed to. Although I personally have had one or two tests that were just like that, most of my academia tests where more of a mixture of recall and recognition with the tests taking the form of True and False, Fill in the Blank and Short Answer. I believed that testing the users in this manner would be much better in attaining more usable, "real-world" information.
Assessment Statement:
Although I was not able to complete the actual research that I proposed, the paper itself was successful in describing the overall proposal of the experiment. Skills learned: research skills, usability testing, experimentation skills, statistical analysis, research literature review, writing skills, analytical skills, and creativity.
